Fast Five ( Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist ) | Movie review

Rated: 18
Genre: Action, crime, drama
Running Time: 2 Hours 12 Minutes
Director: Justin Lin
Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker

"Dominic and his crew find themselves on the wrong side of the law once again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord and a relentless federal agent." -IMDb

Verdict: Some people dislike the "Fast and Furious" series because they thought it's all about cars with cliche plot, lame dialogues and poser characters, compensated by sexy chicks as eye candies. Yes, I agree with these people BUT I don't snub its cool factors. This installment does have a pretty lame storyline but it does have the one of the fastest, most unpredictable, most interesting and most expensive action and car-chase scenes I've ever seen. Asian-American director Justin Lin has brought this franchise to a higher level and class. And with Tyrese Gibson back, you know there'll be decent humour as well.

Element of surprise: (SPOILER BEGINS HERE) The scene where Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) is hanging on to the vehicle crashed into the train and jumps into Dom (Vin Diesel)'s car right before the bridge but they both end up falling off the cliff. That's what I'm talking about, dawg. Unpredictable action! (SPOILER ENDS HERE)

Poor plot yet again: (SPOILER BEGINS HERE) Dom (Vin Diesel) seems like the strongest person alive. He looks so buff and unbeatable in the movie, as if he's almost immortal. Damn, he could even break metal chains to free himself (right...). But he's not much of a brain. If he gave the chip back to the Reyes, "the bad guy", then they might not have that much of problem besides The Rock. (SPOILER ENDS HERE)

"We need someone who could blend in." Yes, of course, an Asian.

Post-credit scene: Absolutely pointless. But I don't mind another sequel from this director.

Translate "Fast Five" into Cantonese: "Em Fai", which could also mean "not fast".

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Date for the show: Iris Loong (yet again!)

Her verdict: "FAST FIVE IS DAMN COOL!"
