Fright Night

Rated: 18
Genre: Comedy horror
Running Time: 1 Hour 47 Minutes
Director: Craig Gillespie
Cast: Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette
"Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he's running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he's so cool he's even dissinghis best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there's something not quite right-but everyone, including Charlie's mom (Toni Collette), doesn't notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic" (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures).

Verdict: Fright Night is decent film despite its unattractive trailer. Can't quite recall the original but this remake is definitely not repetitive as it is more of a comedy than a genuine vampire-horror film. I personally did not find it terrifying but I did enjoyed the humour side of the move, the performance of Colin Farrell as Jerry the vampire, and the comic relief provided by David Tennant as Peter Vincent. Except for the ending, most of the cliches are shorten as much as possible. However, the story lacks of real climax due much of the horror element removed, thanks to Disney.

Favourite scene: (SPOILER BEGINS HERE) The little scene where Charley (Anton Yelchin) closes the wheelie bin outside his place. The scene is so deliberately pointless it cracked me up. (SPOILER ENDS HERE)

To watch in 3D? I don't see much point in it.

Malaysian censorship: There are quite a few scenes with cuts but doesn't really affect anything.

The real vampire form of Jerry reminds me of... the Shinigami (Death God) in Death Note.

Rating: 3 / 5

Second opinion: "Funny and not that scary" (Iris Loong).

The premiere screening of the film was courtesy of Nuffnang.
