Skyfall | Movie review

Skyfall movie poster daniel craig
Rated: P13
Genre: Spy, action
Running Time: 143 minutes
Director: Sam Mendes
Cast: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem

Synopsis: In Skyfall, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Verdict: Definitely not the best 007 James Bond film as some claimed but it's definitely better than the previous instalment (Quantum of Solace) and all of the ones with Pierce Brosnan. Great gritty action, good o' corny dialogues, awesome vehicle-chasing scenes and a quite Christopher Nolan-influenced complex plot (which totally reminded me of his Dark Knight actually). Skyfall pays tribute to the old skool while paving ways for fresher approaches in the future, as though it has not already been done in the past two instalments. However, even with almost 2 1/2 hours, the movie still falls short on the emotional department. And personally, I think Casino Royale is more enjoyable in overall.

Malaysian censorship: Sex scenes are removed, of course, but everything else seems in place.

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Favourite scene: The chasing scene at the beginning - from a car chase to motorbike, then to a fight on a train before it ends with Bond (Daniel Craig) getting shot and falls into the water. Not sure if this opening is better than the parkour chase in Casino Royale but still pretty damn amazing.

James Bond bisexual? There's a scene with some gay-flirting between Bond and Silva (Javier Bardem). Silva seduces and touches Bond, who's tied up to a chair just (almost just like in Casino Royale). "What's your regulation training for this? Don't worry, there's a first time for everything." And Bond replies, "Who says it's my first time?"

  1. I think bond was implying that he kena 'molested' before in his past experience... don't think he's bisexual at all. I think I did enjoy watching this compared to the previous 2 movies starred by Daniel Craig...

Btw, that what exactly what's in my mind - Dark Knight.
There's a part when Bond said to M, "the Storm is coming...."

  2. I LOVED THE GAY FLIRTING SCENE!! XD

I think "Who says it's my first time" might refer to that scene when he was tied to the chair and "got his balls scratched".

  4. I think this is one of the better Bond films since Pierce Brosnan became Bond :p Daniel Craig brought a more real feel to Bond than Brosnan ever did :p

  6. @Henry Yeah I actually thought its dark complex plot is very similar to Nolan's style before that line reassures me LOL!

@j_fish Good point! It could be an inside joke for the fans of the series!

@Eric It is predictable, with it's style, it has to be, perhaps. That's more challenging to make it a fresh instalment every time.

@Chouyin.tan I actually thought Pierce Brosnan had the elegance that James Bond should have but his involvement was not my favourites at all.

@Merryn Well, it's a guy's film unless you like seeing action and handsome man :)

  11. It did not better Casino Royale, sadly :(. Not enough action and stunts and more emotional than i would have liked. Bardem stood out in a memorable role.
