UFC Fight Night 45 & 46 quickie recap

UFC Fight Night 45: 8 out of 11 bouts finished with knockouts, Cerrone KO's Miller

Donald Cerrone headkick KO vs. Jim Miller in UFC Fight Night 45

A very entertaining main card, all bouts were with finishes, one KO, four TKO's and one submission. Most of the fights were on standup most of the time and man, all of them were packed with fireworks, particularly John Lineker vs. Alptekin Özkiliç. Definitely one of the best Fight Nights (that has not many high profile fighters) I've seen this year thus far.

In the main event, Donald Cerrone (24-6) was "allowed" to use his lengthiness against Jim Miller (24-5), finishing him with a head kick that dropped him in the second round then a hard momentum-swinging punch right to the face before the ref came in to stop the fight. Edson Barboza (14-2) finished with a TKO as well within the very first round of the co-main event against Evan Dunham (14-6). His body kick looked like it only barely scratched Dunham's liver but it was enough to get it him down in agony and was unable to respond the followup punches.

The first ever women's strawweight bout in UFC history was the first bout of the night with Cláudia Gadelha getting the victory over Tina Lähdemäki via decision (didn't get to watch this one). Joe Proctor (10-2) finished Justin Salas (12-6) in the second round of their bout with a counter left hook that got Salas wobbly and down for fight-ending side hammerfists. But before that, Salas had a counter hook punch of his own that gave Proctor's head a massive swelling, presumably hematomo. The doctor pressed and pushed it during the break as though she wanted it burst, what a troll to the viewers.

UFC Fight Night 46: Confident McGregor finishes Brandao in the first round

Conor McGregor KO punch vs. Diego Brandao in UFC Fight Night 46

Days later, it was UFC Fight Night again, but this time in Dublin, Ireland, where the crowd was crazy loud. Who could blame 'em when their home town boys delivered results. The one that really brought down the house was of course, the very confident, almost arrogant, Conor McGregor (15-2). Seriously, he could be Chael Sonnen's successor in terms of the way he talks. McGregor extended his winning streak to 11 and have won 3 straight in the UFC after beating Diego Brandao (18-10), who looked to me like he injured his leg and allowed McGregor to finish the fight. But to be fair, McGregor dominated the fight. Both equally did a number of flashing kicks, but it was McGregor's that were connecting. He will definitely be a top contender in the featherweight division soon.

In the co-main event, Icelandic fighter Gunnar Nelson goes 13-0 after defeating Zak Cummings (17-4) with a patient approach. Waiting... boring... then seizes the opportunity, took the back from the ground and executed the choke.
