Tiger White Malaysia's Coaster premieres in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of Hong Kong star Chapman To
"It all starts with white" -- Just a blank sheet of something to write or/and draw on is all that's needed to kick off whatever you want to create. Then with courage, effort and a bit of resources, it can actually happen and it has been proven once again, this time by this inspiring Tiger White campaign which successfully produced the world's first film made from, guess what, beer coasters.
Back in October, around 5,000 of beer coasters along with a website were served as blank canvases for young Malaysian talents to participate and be recruited to take on roles in a short film production that didn't even have a script yet. There were 25 roles to be filled from screenwriters to hair stylists to actors and even runners, and ultimately winners were selected with Jun and Lim Benji getting the all-important roles of director and screenwriter respectively. The lucky duo were getting invaluable advice from Baltasar Kormákur, the great film director responsible for Everest (2015) and Oscar-nominated The Deep (2012). The film was shot in Kuala Lumpur, amazingly, in just 3 days.
Titled simply as Coaster, the completed short revenge thriller was exclusively premiered to invited guests and media last weekend (19 December 2015) at Glasshouse in Seputeh KL. Many like myself were surprised to see high profile Hong Kong actor Chapman To present at the event even though he played no part in the campaign. Anyway, the film was shown and even To applauded to it. You can now watch it too here;
The film may not seem like much with its simple plot and cheesy Chinese TV drama-like approach, but visually, it looks awesome and it has some really good dramatic and compelling sequences. For a film that started from nothing but beer coasters, it's a very good job in overall, especially work by the cinematographer, editor and composer. The completion of the film symbolises and proves that anybody can create anything if they have the courage to face a blank sheet of paper and just freakin' do it!
The newly launched Tiger White wheat beer is brewed with subtle spicy hints of clove, coriander, and orange peel and like Coaster, is made exclusively in Malaysia by Guinness Anchor Berhad. The cloudy variant with an alcohol by volume of 5% is the latest addition to join Tiger’s expanding portfolio, two years after the brand unveiled its other innovative beverage Tiger Radler – a variant that combines the crisp and easy-drinking taste of Tiger Beer with the zesty flavour of natural lemon juice.
