30,000 anime fans turn out at the fun-filled Animax Carnival Malaysia 2016
Held last weekend (March 26th & 27th) at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Animax Carnival Malaysia 2016 (#AnimaxACMY) was the fifth annual anime event organised by one of Asia's leading anime channel, Animax (Astro channel 715). There were anime-themed activities, cosplay, official merchandises and giveaways but the ultimate headliner was definitely GARNiDELiA.
The popular Japanese two-piece anisong band absolutely pleased the highly responsive crowd at carnival when they took the stage on Saturday morning. The band, comprising Maria and Abe Yoshinoli, performed their favourite hits such as Ambiguous (Kill la Kill), Blazing (Gundam Reconguista in G) and Grilletto (The Irregular at Magic High School), just to name a few.
The fanbase in Malaysia was clearly strong as most of the attendees were seen to be singing and dancing along every song performed. Although the audio system wasn't fantastic, the charming Maria's powerful live vocals and stage presence were undoubtedly impressive. Two more ani-song artistes from Japan, angela and yanaginagi, performed on the following day as well.
There were long queues at every activity at the two-day carnival, including the shop that sold official anime merchandises. At the experiential zones, attendees were invited to try solve a murder mystery based on The File of Young Kindaichi R and of course, the one everyone was excited about, the One Punch Man punching machines but as expected, the machines were pretty much like the ones at the local arcades unrelated to the title.
The winner of the Cosplay Competition this year went to Gan Cia Ceng who cosplayed as Maleficient. It may not be a anime character, or the Japanese version of her, but Gan's costume and performance outshone the other contestants to take home the brand new Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone.
The carnival may be over now but the entertainment has just begun for the Animax viewers as two highly anticipated anime series titled My Hero Academia and Twin Star Exorcists were announced to premiere on April 3rd (7pm every Sunday) and 6th (10pm every Wednesday) respectively.
Probably not for the first time, we had impostors using ColourlessOpinions.com to enter the carnival as media. To the organisers and attendees, please be informed that Iris and myself were the only ones from ColourlessOpinions.com at the event. We hope the impostors named Lionel Lee and Gavin something (if I remembered correctly) weren't trouble-making perverts or anything but if they did, please understand that we had nothing to do with these two dodgy fellas.
