BPL Season 2015/2016: Everton FC 0 - 2 Arsenal FC
Rants & review by a Malaysian Gooner
We got knocked out of the FA Cup by Watford before Barcelona trashed us again in the second leg of the Champions League. We have nothing to fight for now apart from surviving in the fourth spot (le boss Arsene Wenger's favourite trophy) although we are still mathematically in the title race.
Everton was surprisingly horrible at their own turf last weekend. Tactically it's like they didn't even want to try to frustrate us like all other clubs did. They basically allowed us to do outclass them in every way. We played Arsenal football for the first time in months. Great plays and link-ups. There's better chemistry between our star duo Alexis Sanchez-Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck who has been fantastic ever since he came back from injury. Sanchez to Ozil and back to Sanchez for the brilliant through pass to the smart run by Welbeck into the box for the one-on-one against the keeper whom he rounded and put the ball pass calmly. Loved it.
Theo Walcott was benched as he should've been many games ago. Olivier Giroud's form has dipped far worst than Sanchez's so it's right for Welbeck to start instead. I was surprised though that Alex Iwobi was selected over Joel Campbell but it would prove that it was a right choice by Wenger as the youngster scored his first ever goal for the club. There also seemed to be far better midfield control with Mohamed Elneny playing instead of Aaron Ramsey or Matthieu Flamini. He's more composed, accurate with his passing and has more purpose with his decisions.
Although the goalless second half wasn't as great, I'd say it was still one of our greatest performance in overall this season after Santi Cazorla got injured. We also had like two penalties that weren't given by that blind-ass referee. Watford again next but it's the international break now but if everyone comes back fit and could play like we did against Everton every game from now, we could continue to give Leicester City pressure. Being 5 points clear from Tottenham Hotspur and 11 points from us (we have a game in hand), it's Leicester's title to lose now. I doubt the Spurs could win both their next two games against Liverpool and Manchester United. We have less difficult opponents until our second last match of the season against Manchester City. If we dropped any more points before that though, it's goodbye all hope for sure.
