ONE: Unbreakable Warriors to feature 8 Malaysian fighters
After 7 long months, ONE Championship is finally coming back to Malaysia, this time with the title "Unbreakable Warriors" — probably signifying the fighters who'd bounce back right up regardless how hard they've been beaten.
Our one and only Malaysian model-cum-MMA fighter superstar Peter Davis (10-4) returns after almost a year of hiatus since last fight against Adrian Pang, a loss which ended his hope of challenging for the lightweight championship title. Peter will be facing Shannon Wiratchai (5-1) who's on a three-fight winning streak. He may be Thai but he won his last fight via submission, making him an all-round threat. Although he's never fought someone as experienced as Peter, I think this can be an interesting fight to watch for local supporters.
It doesn't look like we'll be getting a title bout here this year but Malaysian-born New Zealander Ev Ting (11-3) is once again in the main event. In his previous two fights, Ting defeated two of the Philippines' best fighters in the featherweight division (Eric Kelly and Honorio Banario), making his way back up the ladder to challenge for the title again. He is up against Rob Lisita (14-8), who had an impressive start in ONE but has been in a three-fight losing streak since. Based the Australian's recent record, I'm not sure why he deserves this fight but it would be a massive victory if he does win. So it's technicality versus aggression. This could be a good fight if Lisita doesn't get finished in the very first round again.
6 other Malaysian fighters are on the card as well including the usual suspects, the Subba brothers, Ann Osman and Agilan Thani. If you're a huge fan of local MMA fighters, you can't miss ONE: Unbreakable Warriors happening at Stadium Negara, KL on 2 September 2016 from 7pm onwards. Get your tickets now.
