Malaysian fans of Star Wars "go rogue" at Toys 'R Us, Mid Valley Megamall KL
Upon arrival on the first floor at Mid Valley Megamall at 10pm last night, I could already see a long U-shaped queue outside of Toys R Us, counting down to the midnight opening of the highly anticipated, all-new toys of the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The launch event "Go Rogue" (formerly known as "Force Friday") was filled with activities, prize giveaways and cosplayers during the exciting 2-hour countdown.

Hardcore Star Wars fans of young and old, kids and adults, families and friends, were all spending quality time together for the epic space opera franchise they all love while eagerly waiting to get their hands on the toys of a Star Wars film that's not even released yet. And when the countdown timer hit zero at 12 midnight, the fans went berserk shopping for the Rogue One toys and merchandises from Hasbro, LEGO, Mattel and more. Some racks gone empty within minutes and had to be replenished by the staffs. It was quite an eye opener for me. I overheard a dad telling his kid, "I'll hold the bags (of the Star Wars toys we've already bought). You go grab what else you want." What a lucky boy!
We also got a first look at the limited edition Royal Selangor and Hot Toys Rogue One collectible figurines.
Top spenders and best dressed fans of the night walked away with some great Star Wars prizes. The first 250 customers with purchase of RM200 in a single receipt were eligible to receive a goodie bag that consists of exclusive Rogue One "Join the Rebellion" merchandises.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be the first standalone film in the franchise and is a prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977) that tells the story of the group of Rebel spies go on a dangerous mission to steal the plans of the Death Star. It is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and stars Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Donnie Yen (Ip Man films), Mad Mikkelsen (Hannibal TV series) and more. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Malaysia, the film is set to be released nationwide on 15 December 2016.
